Sara E. Vanasdlen, 93, of Newville and formerly of Carlisle, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Green Ridge Village, Newville.
Sara was born on December 1, 1928 in Boiling Springs, a daughter of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Hoffsass) Gruver. She was the widow of Lee Etter Vanasdlen, who died March 6, 2015.
She was a retired LPN at the former Carlisle Hospital having worked there for 43 years. Mrs. Vanasdlen was a 1948 graduate of Boiling Springs High School and a 50 year member of Old Bellaire Chapter OES #375.
Surviving are her son: Joseph B. Vanasdlen (husband James Sloan) of Mt. Holly Springs; a grandson: Joseph P. Vanasdlen (companion Amber Gardner) of Gardners and two great granddaughters: Cierra Vanasdlen and Rilee Hollenbaugh. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law: Naomi Helms and Kay Phillips, both of Huntingdon; two brothers-in-law; Robert Vanasdlen of Scranton and Ronald Vanasdlen of Chicago and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle with the Rev. Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be private. Viewing will be at the funeral home one Tuesday from 6:00 PM until time of service with Eastern Star Services at 6:45 PM.
