William Leib

WILLIAM . E. LEIB

William E. “Bill” Leib, 84 , of Mechanicsburg, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at home.

Born Dec. 16, 1926 in Monroe Twp.,  he was a son of the late John E. and Ruth A. (Woods) Leib.

Bill was a retired Rural Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service and was a lifelong farmer, which was his love. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and Sunday School, Boiling Springs.  He served several terms on Church Council as well as the Mt. Zion Cemetery Board of Directors.  He was a past president of the Cumberland County Square Dance Association.  He was also a former 4-H leader and a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.

He was preceded in death by a brother:  Blaine E. Leib and two sisters:  Florence Line and Mary Shambaugh.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years; Ruth  (Shields) Leib, a son: Robert E. (and wife Kym) of Terre Haute, IN; two daughters:  Patricia  E. Leib of Mechanicsburg and Roxann Clay (and husband James) of Mechanicsburg;  three sisters:  H. Romaine Sheaffer ( and husband, Glenn) of Dillsburg; Mabel Strock (and husband Clyde) of Mechanicsburg and Emily Nearhood, of Hershey;  a brother:  Samuel Leib of Carlisle; three grandsons:  William G. Leib ( and wife Nicole) of Oklahoma; Lt. Anthony J. Clay (and wife Lauren) of Atsugi, Japan and Andrew D. Clay (and Fiancee’ Jewely Latchaw) of Morgantown, WV. and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at  11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle, with the Rev. Doris Nolan, his pastor, and Chaplain Timothy Wheeler, of Celtic Hospice, officiating.  Private burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Boiling Springs.  Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from  6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to :  Mt Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Churchtown, Inc., both of 325 Old Stonhouse Road, S., Boiling Springs, Pa 17007 or Celtic  Hospice, 220 Wilson St., Carlisle, Pa 17013.
