Walter Sowers, III

Walter R.  Sowers, III (Buddy), age 56, of Carlisle, passed on December 13, 2011 at Harrisburg Hospital.

He was the son of the late Walter R. Sowers, II and Thelma E. (Potteiger) Sowers.

He was a 1974 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School and Cumberland Perry Vocational Technical School.

Buddy was employed as a mason with Kepler Masonry and for many years prior with Rynard and Sheaffer Masonry.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, ATV’ing, the outdoors, family, the Hershey Bears and the Miami Dolphins.  Through the years he was a member of the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails, NRA and Carlisle Fish and Game.

He is survived by his wife:  Mary Deitz Sowers and daughter:  Jennifer Sowers, both of Carlisle; his brother:  Dennis Potteiger ( and wife Sharon) of Carlisle; his mother-in-law: Martha Deitz of Boiling Springs; his sister-in-law and her husband:  Jane and Randy Simpson of Carlisle; his sister-in-law and her husband:  Marge and Keith Metzger of Boiling Springs; and various nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle, with Pastor Richard Warner officiating.  Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.  Viewing will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
