Thomas Alfred Wilcox, born in Canton, PA, February 3, 1914, to Minnie Pearl Hakes and Frederick Alfred Wilcox, went to his eternal home in heaven on August 29, 2011.
He grew up in Waverly, NY and summered in Evergreen, PA with his maternal grandparents. He attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio and Nyack College in Nyack, NY, before being called to serve as pastor at the Canton Christian Missionary Alliance church in 1935. He met his wife, of 75 years, on July 4, 1936 and married her on August 4, 1936. He was a proud and loving father of three sons and one daughter
He received his ordination on September 18, 1941, at the District Conference in Buffalo, NY. He faithfully served his calling as a minister of the Christian and Missionary Alliance for 47 years. He was a pastor to congregations in Canton, Allentown, Lancaster, and Williamsport, PA, Frederick, MD, Newark, NJ, as well as, Newark, North Tonawanda, and Walton, NY. He also served in CMA Bureau of Evangelism from 1957 to 1959 and traveled throughout the United States sharing the gospel message.
He served as camp director for Hughesville Friends Camp, Hughesville, PA, for 14 years after leaving full-time ministry in 1982. He continued as pastor-emeritus in the Hughesville/Williamsport area until in 2004, when he retired, along with his wife, to Chapel Pointe Retirement Community at Carlisle, PA.
He is survived by two sons, Alden Thomas Wilcox, South Carolina, Samuel Ansley Wilcox, husband of Cynthia W., Lancaster, PA and a daughter, Rebecca W. Lehmann, Elizabethtown, PA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, on August 3, 2011, his eldest son, Keith C. Wilcox, Sr., in October 2004 and his son-in-law, Klaus Lehmann in April 2011.
Services will be at the Chapel Pointe Alliance Church, 770 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013, on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Ronald G. Milley and Rev. Walt Frankenberry officiating. Viewing will be from 9:45 to 10:30 AM Friday in the Chapel. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Westminster Cemetery, Lancaster.
Flowers may be omitted and contributions may be made to either Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or Chapel Pointe Benevolent Fund, 770 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
