SARA ANN THUMMA

Sara Ann Thumma, 79, of Carlisle went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2011.

Born in Lancaster on August 12, 1932, she was a daughter of the late George Alvon and Henrietta (Smith) Leaman.

Sara’s life was filled with cheerful service to her family, the church and God.  Childhood Polio left her with physical challenges, which she overcame with an always joyful spirit and a kindhearted disposition. She was an avid  vegetable and flower gardner, as well as a proud homemaker.  She loved playing games of all sorts with her grandchildren.

Sara attended, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and sang in the choir for many years at Community Baptist Church.  She donated countless hours to the Child Evangelism Fellowship camps and Good News Clubs, where she was affectionately know as the “Juice and Cookie Lady.”

She was preceded in death by a sister:  Nettie McDonald and two brothers:  George A. and Donald Leaman.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years:  Foster Eugene (Gene/Red) Thumma; a son:  Scott L. and his wife Jennifer Thumma of Connecticut; two daughters:  Christine E. and her husband Michael J. Celona of Mt. Holly Springs and June E. and her husband Jack W. Landis of Coatesville; a sister:  Eunice Schlegelmilch of Danville; a brother:  James S. Leaman of Lancaster and eight grandchildren:  Hannah, Katherine, Joseph, Caleb, Sarah, Benjamin, Madeline and Rebekah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26 from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle,with her son-in-law, the Rev. Jack W. Landis, officiating.  Burial will follow  in   North Middleton Church of God Cemetery, Carlisle. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Sara’s name may be made to Child  Evangelism Fellowship of Cumberland County, 150 Fairview Drive, Carlisle, Pa 17013.
