Roy A. Peffer
Roy Alvin Peffer passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.
Roy was a devoted father, grandfather, and educator whose life reflected a deep commitment to learning, service, and community. He spent his career in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator, leading with fairness and dedication, discipline, and care for those around him at the Mechanicsburg School District and the School District of Philadelphia. He especially loved sitting outside on his porch, passing the day by talking with people walking by, watching sports, and offering help or encouragement whenever he could.
Athletics and Coaching
Athletics played an important role throughout Roy’s life. At Cumberland Valley High School, he competed in football and track and field, and he later competed in track and field at Bloomsburg College. He went on to serve as a varsity assistant coach and head track and field coach at Mechanicsburg High School, where he mentored student-athletes and emphasized discipline, teamwork, and character. In recognition of his lasting athletic and coaching contributions, Roy was a member of the inaugural class of inductees into the Cumberland Valley Hall of Fame for both football and track and field.
Family
He is survived by his sons, Eric Peffer and Todd Peffer; his daughter-in-law, Jenny Peffer; his grandchildren, Rochelle and Gavin; his sisters, Mary Paulus and Florence Musgrave; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Mary (Sprangler) Peffer, and his brothers, Paul Peffer, Glenn Peffer, John Peffer, and Edgar Peffer Jr.
Education
Roy was a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Class of 1959. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg College, later received his master’s degree from Shippensburg College, and earned his Administrative Principal Certificate from Western Maryland College, continuing a lifelong pursuit of education and leadership.
Memberships
Roy was a member of Masonic Eureka Lodge #30, a member of the National Education Association, and a life member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association.
Services
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A public viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Masonic services will begin at 12:30 p.m., immediately prior to the funeral service. Family members, including his daughter-in-law, along with others who wish to offer remarks, will be invited to share personal reflections after the Masonic service. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Boiling Springs, with a reception from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Roy will be remembered for his steady presence, dedication to education, love of athletics, and the lasting influence he had on the many students, athletes, colleagues, and family members whose lives he touched.
