ROBERT E. SWARTZ

Robert E. Swartz, 88, of Carlisle, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 in the Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle.

Born June 23, 1926 in Newville, he was a son of the late Earl E. and Stella M (Moffitt) Swartz.

Mr. Swartz was retired, after 42 years of service, from the former C. H. Masland and Sons where he was a tufter and weaver.  He had also been employed by the Fahrney Bus Co. as a bus driver for a number of years.

He was a 1944 graduate of the former Newville High School and was a U S Army veteran of the Korean War.  A life member of the Penn Twp. Volunteer Fire Company, he also held membership in the Failor-Wagner American Legion Post 421, Newville.

Bob was a member of Big Spring Lodge #361 F&AM and the Harrisburg Consistory.  He was a lifelong member of the Huntsdale Church of the Brethren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters:  Aileen McCullough and Sara Swartz.

Surviving are his wife:  Jean (Evans) Swartz; three daughters:  Wendy (and husband John) Gingrich of Carlisle; Bonnie (and husband David) Grove of York Haven and Phyllis (and husband Ryan) Hurley of Newville; a sister:  Loree Swartz of Carlisle; a brother:  Ray (and wife Fay) Swartz of Hanover; a brother in law:  Tom McCullough of Newville and five grandchildren:  Westly, Ben, Michelle, Colin and Erin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Friday, September 26, 2014 from the Huntsdale Church of the Brethren, 170 Church Road, Carlisle.  Burial, with military honors, will be in the adjoining church cemetery.  Viewing will be at the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle, on Thursday evening from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M.  Masonic services will be conducted at 8:00 P. M.   Viewing will also be at the church on Friday from 10:00 A. M. until time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Huntsdale Church of the Brethren, 170 Church Road, Carlisle Pa 17015.
