RICHARD B. ROOGOW
Richard B. Roogow, 80, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born June 9, 1933 in Richmond, VA, he was a son of the late Solomon and Rose (Harrison) Roogow.
Mr. Roogow served in the Merchant Marine and was in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service.
He was a graduate of Madison High School, Brooklyn, NY. At one time he was employed by the New York Herald Tribune newspaper.
Dick was and avid history buff, especially of the American Civil War. He also loved travelling, particularly to Scandinavia, Canada and Japan. He possessed a keen interest in coin and stamp collecting.. While at Claremont he enjoyed visiting the VFW and loved the blue grass music performances and playing bingo at the nursing home.
Surviving are a daughter: Susan L. Lara (and husband Robert) of Carlisle; a sister: Sandy Amerling of St. Augustine, FL; a brother: Alan Robert Roogow (and companion Angie) of Boca Raton, FL; two grandsons: Robert A. Lara (and wife Susan G.) and Daniel J. Lara (and wife Kristin), all of Mechanicsburg; a great grandson: Hunter Lara; several cousins, including Alan Richard Roogow ( and wife Helen) and Buddy Roogow (and wife Billie) all of Baltimore, MD; and 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley, 2 Forge Road, Boiling Springs, PA. Private burial will be in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A. M. until time of service.
