RALPH CLAY
Ralph Clay, 91, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Bridges of Bent Creek where he had been a resident for several years.
Born August 12, 1933 in Hazard, KY, he was the son of the late Daley and Lula (Watts) Clay.
He was the widower of Josephine L (Lichty) Clay, who passed on October 4, 2024.
He was a proud veteran of the US Navy. Joining at 17 years old, he had to promise his father that he would not return to the coal mines after his enlistment was over.
Ralph was a member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg and served many years on its Cemetery Board. He was also a member of the Mechanicsburg Club, the Flirts and Sklirts and a Life Member of Citizen’s Fire Co., Mechanicsburg.
After returning from the Navy, he married Jo and began working at Lichty’s Esso (now Clay’s Service Center), which was owned by his father in law. He eventually bought the business and provided auto repair services to Mechanicsburg and the surrounding area until he retired and sold the business to his son.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Rodgers and siblings, Pauline Chaney, Estill Clay, Carl Clay, Faye Seals, William (Vernal) Clay and Marie Clay.
He is survived by two sons: James D. Clay (Roxann) and Thomas A Clay, (Keri), both of Mechanicsburg. Also surviving are grandchildren: Selena Mallios, Anthony (AJ) Clay, Sheldon Rodgers, Andrew Clay, Mary Alleman and Sarah Clay as well as 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 25, 2025 at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Martha S. Boyd, officiating. Visitation with the family will follow services on Friday. Private burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
