PATRICK L. MURPHY
Patrick L.”Pat” Murphy, 101, of Boiling Springs, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025 at UPMC Carlisle Hospital.
Born November 28, 1923 in Boiling Springs, he was the son of the late Tolbert and Ida (Smith) Murphy. He was the widow of Genevieve (Miller) Murphy who died in 2009.
Immediately after graduating from Boiling Springs High School in 1943, Pat honorably served his country in the U S Army with Battery B, 272nd Field Artillery Battalion as a Cannoneer, during WWII. He saw service in Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe, earning 4 Bronze Stars.
Upon returning from the war, he secured a position at the former C H Masland, where he met his wife, whom he married on Christmas Day.
He was a member of Shippensburg Independent Bible Church. Pat was also the last remaining Charter Member of Boiling Springs VFW Post 8851 and 1 out of 4 of the last remaining WWII Veterans in Central PA. He was a Past commander and Quartermaster of the Post. Pat helped build the VFW home on Hamilton Road in Boiling Springs. He and his comrade, Ferm Landis, cut the grass for over 30 years at the Clock Tower in Boiling Springs. On his daily walks around Children’s Lake, Pat always stopped to salute the Vietnam Memorial. Pat was a longtime member of the Cumberland County Veterans Honor Guard and will be sorely missed by his fellow veterans.
He was a friend and mentor to many, especially in Boiling Springs.
Surviving are his sons: Bryne K. Murphy (Marguirite) of Mt. Holly Springs and Bradley N. Murphy (Karen) of Landisburg. Also surviving are a grandson: Jeremy B. Murphy of Carlisle, 2 great grandchildren, Madelyn and Emma Shaw as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Patrick L. Murphy, Jr., his granddaughter, Amanda Shaw and his siblings, Timothy and Terry Murphy, sisters, Jane Myers, Fay Finkey and Fern Gutshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 16, 2025 from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle, with the Rev. Kenneth Waggoner officiating. Viewings will be at the funeral home on Friday from 6;00- 8:00 PM and also on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Burial, with military honors by the Cumberland County Honor Guard, will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Boiling Springs.
