Martha Deitz

April 23, 1942 — September 9, 2017

Martha E. (Fearnbaugh) Deitz,75, of Boiling Springs (Churchtown), went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2017.  After a long courageous battle with cancer, she peacefully entered into her final resting place, surrounded by her family.  She was born on April 23, 1942 in Lebanon, PA to the late Russel and Mary (Shellhamer) Fearnbaugh.

Martha was pre-deceased by her husband Robert Deitz, brother William Fearnbaugh, and sons-in-law Walter (Buddy) Sowers and Keith Metzger. She is survived by her daughters Mary Sowers of Carlisle, Jane Simpson (Randy) of Carlisle, and Marjorie Metzger of Boiling Springs, granddaughters Jennifer Sowers of Carlisle, Renee Shindel (Jesse) of Carlisle, Brooke Romito (Brandon) of Carlisle, great grandchildren Jayden and Hannah Shindel of Carlisle, and Ryder and Reagan Romito of Carlisle.  Martha is also survived by her brother George Fearnbaugh of Ickesburg, brother Ray Fearnbaugh (Sue) of Mechanicsburg, sister Susan Comp (Gary) of Elliottsburg, numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Martha retired from the Cumberland Valley School District with 38 years of service with the Monroe Elementary School Food Service Department.  She had also been employed by Karns Foods, Williams Grove Amusement Park and Speedway, and Silver Spring Flea Market.    She graduated from the Cumberland Valley Adult Education Program in 1994.  She was an active member of the Churchtown Church of God, where she taught Sunday School, was the President of the Womens Ministry, and served on the Church Council.  She was a member of the Williams Grove Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and served as a Girl Scout leader. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She has inspired, encouraged, and touched many lives.  She enjoyed traveling, sewing, and spending time with her church family and friends.  She was a kind, giving person and gave great joy to many with her gift of wonderful cooking and baking.

A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, September 14, from 6-9 PM and on Friday from 10 AM until time of service at the Ronan Funeral Home in Carlisle, PA for friends and family.  Services will be held on Friday, September 15 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Brian Warner officiating.  Interment will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
