JEANNE D. HURLEY

Jeanne D. Hurley, 94, of Carlisle, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 in the Swaim Health Center, Newville.

Born November 26, 1921 in Abbottstown, Pa, she was a daughter of the late Desire’ and Gertrude (Kraber) Dworzak.

She received her Bachelor of Education Degree from Shippensburg University and had taught for a short time in the Hanover, Pa area.

Mrs. Hurley was a member of The Meeting House, Carlisle.

Her favorite things were sunsets, the night sky, birdwatching and traveling, the love of which she instilled in all of her children.  She and her husband spent the 25 wonderful winters on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico enjoying the blue waters and white sand. Jeanne was always adventuresome; for her 75th Birthday she went skydiving.

She was preceded in death by two brothers:  Donald and Willis Dworzak.

Surviving are her husband: Col. (Ret.) Richard M. Hurley; a son:  Hudson (wife Noel) Marts of Atlanta, Ga; a stepson:  Michael (wife Yvette) Hurley of Deming, NM; two daughters: Marianne Shoemaker of Watkins Glen, NY; Christina Marts ( fiance’ Peter Goedecke) of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren:  one great great grandson.

Memorial services will be held at The Meeting Place, 1155 Walnut Bottom Road, on  Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11:00 A. M. with the Revs. Alan Robinson and Kenneth Hoke officiating.  Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church on Thursday     from 10:00 A. M. until time of service.
