JAMES L. SHUMBERGER, SR.

James L. “Jim” Shumberger, Sr., 88, of Carlisle passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023 at Cumberland Crossings, Carlisle.

Born in Carlisle on July 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Lee W. and Marie D. (Ahlers) Shumberger.

Jim was a 1953 graduate of Boiling Springs High School and was retired from Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 where he worked as Sprinkler Fitter and served on the Negotiating Committee. He retired in 1990.  He served several years in the PA National Guard.

He was a member of Cleversburg United Methodist Church and a former member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Churchtown.

Jim was a longtime member of the Gobin Guards, Carlisle, the Carlisle Moose #761 and the Carlisle Area NASCAR Club.  He was a life member of Eagles Aerie #1299, Carlisle and the Knights of Pythias, Churchtown.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, golfing and bowling.

Surviving are his wife:  Shirley (Chaundy) Shumberger, a son James L. (Peggy) Shumberger, Jr. of Boiling Springs, son in law Allen (Rocky) Deihl of Newville.  Also surviving are two brothers: Thomas F. Shumberger of Mechanicsburg and Paul E. Shumberger of Carlisle and a sister, Freida Kann of Maryland.  Additionally he is survived by four grandchildren: Mark (Rosa) Shafer, Melissa (James) McClain, Michael J. (Lois) Shumberger and Ryan (Amanda) Shumberger as well as great grandchildren Alayna McClain, Corey Beers and Nova Shumberger.

Jim was preceded in death by two daughters: Sharon Kay Deihl and Sandra Louise Shumberger and grandson Christopher Mixell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 12 Noon from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle.  Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  Viewing will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 A. M. until 12:00 P. M.
