DR. GEORGE E. SNOW

Dr. George E. Snow, 73, of Newville, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born January 13, 1939 in Miami, FL, he was the only child of Malcolm E. and Elizabeth Z. (Lewis) Snow.  He earned his undergraduate and master's degrees from Ohio State University and his doctorate from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Dr. Snow retired in 2007 after 40 years as a professor at Shippensburg University.  He was a member of the university's history department with an emphasis on Russian studies.  His career allowed him to travel and do research on a number of occassions in Russia and Finland.

He was an active member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1299, Carlisle.  He was a member of the National Association of Scholars, as well as a number of other professional organizations.  He recently achieved the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate.

"Pop-Pop" will be greatly missed by all of his family including his wife:  Mary (Wood) Snow; a son:  George E. Snow, II; three daughters:  Rebecca Wetzel and her husband, Gene, of Liverpool; Chandra Farner and her husband Jim of Mt. Holly Springs; Jessica Bishop and husband Frank, of Landisburg and nine grandchildren:  Ross, Rachel and Travis Wetzel; Breanna, Benjamin, Erik and Alex Farner and Jacqueline and Clinton Bishop.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A. M. Monday, October 29, 2012 at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, 305 N. Prince St., Shippensburg with the Rev. David Hillier as celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Carlisle.  Visitation will be at the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, 305 N. Prince St., Shippensburg, Pa 17257.
