George Ellis

GEORGE W. ELLIS

MSgt(Ret.) George W. Ellis, 88, of Carlisle, died at home on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011.

Born in Holyoke, CO on Feb. 19, 1923 he was the son of the late Elmer Jay  and Gertrude Ellis.

A retired Air Force Master Sergeant, he served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam on active duty.

Mr. Ellis graduated from Varina High School, Varina, IA.  He was a member of the Carlisle Fish and Game, Carlisle Gun Club, VFW Post #477, American Legion Post 101 and AmVets Post 274.

He loved block shoots, target shooting and gun collecting and was very active until his death.

He was preceded in death by a son:  Jerry Jay Ellis and a daughter:  Deborah Thompson.

Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years:  Georgia (Pappas)  Ellis; a sister:  Hazel Putnam of Cherokee, IA and his son-in-law:  Mark Thompson of Carlisle.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 in Waggoner’s United Methodist Cemetery, Carlisle, with the Rev. William E. Pipp officiating.  There will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Avenue, 3rd Floor, Room 320 New York City, NY 10001 or www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
