(Dorothy) Jean Griffie Kurtz, 83, of Carlisle, went to the loving arms of Jesus, her Savior, on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
Born February 24, 1928 near Newville, she was the daughter of the late Mervin and Clara Weller Griffie. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Dale Griffie.
A1946 graduate of Newville High School, she them completed a secretarial course at Carlisle Commercial College. She was employed by Farmers Trust Company and United Telephone Company.
She was passionate about giving of herself, her time and her resources to others. In addtion to her devotion to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her love of all children was expressed in her service as a Sunday School Kindergarten teacher and pianist for 50 years at her church. In addition to her many years of dedication at Grace United Methodist Church, she also volunteered at Project SHARE and Meals on Wheels.
She spent much time reading and completing soduko and jigsaw puzzles,
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 62 years, Kenneth L. Kurtz; one daughter, Nancy Hoffman, and her husband, Lynn, of Carlisle; a son, Edward Kurtz, of Thailand; a son, Brian Kurtz, and his wife Kimberly, of Germany; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Grace United Methodist Church from 4:00 pm to 6:45 pm on December 16, 2011 for visitation, followed by a celebration of her life at 7:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Fensterbush officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
