Clara Hertzler

CLARA KUHN KECK HERTZLER

We, the family of Clara Hertzler, of 24 Valley Street. Carlisle, are celebrating her Eternal Homegoing, which occurred on May 18, 2012 at the Church of God Nursing Home, Carlisle.

She was 93 years old, born on August 21, 1918 in Letterkenny Twp., Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Nettie (Glessner) Kuhn.  She was a 1935 graduate of Shippensburg High School.

Clara married the late Clarence A. Kuhn in 1937, and together they farmed in Cumberland County, until their retirement and his impending death in 1963.

In 1969 she married the late J. Wayne Hertzler, who preceded her in death in 1998.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church on Forge Road, Carlisle and formerly attended Bethany Evangelical Church on Petersburg Road, Carlisle. She was a member of Farm Women Group #2 for over 50 years.

Clara was preceded in death by  son-in-law Wayne Shughart; sisters: Ethel Kuhn, Edna Paxton, Esther Gotshall, Blanche Durff, Helen and Nancy Kuhn and brothers:  Merle, Russel, Frank and Charles Kuhn.

Clara leaves behind her only daughter:  Geraldine Shughart of Carlisle; four grandchildren:  Vickie Demastus and her husband Lee of Lebanon; Terri Shreve of Boiling Springs; Timothy Shughart and wife Darlene of Carlisle and David Shughart and wife Kimberly of New Kingstown; five great grandchildren:  Seth Shreve and wife Leslie, Leah  Painton and husband Jon Paul, Ashlee Demastus, Heather Steese and husband Asa, and Timothy J. Shughart; one great great grandson:  Austin Steese.

Also surviving are one sister:  June Minor, three sisters-in-law Jennette Finkenbinder and Ruth and Doris Keck; one brother-in-law: Donald Keck, plus many nieces and nephews.

We will be celebrating her life with a memorial service at Bethany Evangelical Church, 558 Petersburg Road, Carlisle on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 12 Noon, with Senior Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating.  Visitation and receiving of friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Evangelical Church, 558 Petersburg Road, Carlisle, Pa 17015.
