ANNA GAYLE MENTZER


Anna Gayle Mentzer, 88, of Carlisle, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.

Born June 28, 1923 in Silver Spring Twp., Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence D. and Edith Mae (Finkenbinder) Weary. She was the widow of Carl (Barney) R. Mentzer.

Gayle was a member of the Plainfield First Church of God. She loved flower gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She worked at the Columbia Minerva Yarn Company and the Carlisle Garment Company in Carlisle.

Surviving are five daughters: Doris Kerns of Carlisle; Janet Lebo (and husband Carl) of Carlisle; Linda Frye (and husband Lyle) of Wisconsin; Lois Zeigler (and husband Ron) of Newville; and Mary Jane Wickard (and husband Gary) of Carlisle; four sisters: Martha Snyder and Betty Tritt, both of Carlisle and JoAnne Shearer and Jeanne Speck, both of Newville; seven grandchildren: Cindy Swarner, Debbie Bogert, Ed and Joel Lebo, Kelli and Tim Zeigler and Jason Wickard; nine great grandchildren Justin, Joshua and Christopher Barrick, Kelsie Bogert, Clayton and Summer Lebo, Garrett & Olivia Wickard, Aubrey Watkins and two great great grandchildren, Lily Barrick and Easton Barrick.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Maynard, Merrill and Robert Weary and two sisters: Mary Weary and Ruth Miller.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from the Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Ed Rosenberry officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville. Refreshments and visitation with the family will immediately follow the service.
