ANDREA C. SHIRK

She was a graduate of Belfonte H.S. and a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she earned her teaching degree in Early Elementary Education.  She started her teaching career in the Hanover, PA school district.  After having children, she was a dedicated pre-school teacher at GLEE Nursery school at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg for 25 years.  Throughout the years, she also served as a Bible School teacher and assisted with confirmation camp for St. Peter Lutheran Church.  Her grandchildren have many fond memories of learning sessions with her, and until recently, she played a major role in home schooling of her eldest great grandchild.

She really enjoyed music and sang in multiple church choirs over the years and played the saxophone through all of high school.  She was a former member of the Cumberland Singers and attended a woman’s card club with many good friends for over 40 years.  She was an avid reader and loved to play games particularly with her grandchildren and eldest great grandson. She was a long-time member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Boiling Springs. 

Surviving are her husband:  Walter Shirk, a daughter Lauren Bordlemay of Mechanicsburg, a son,  Bradd Shirk of Elizabethtown, a sister, Jackie Chatlas and a niece, Georgia Pham of Delaware.  Also surviving are four grandchildren: Zachary Shirk, Alexandrea Young, David Miller and Melanie Miller, and four great grandchildren: Clarence, Lilly, Shade and Bowan.

Andrea was a loving and caring wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she was a wonderful friend to many others during her life.

At her request, there will be a private family graveside service held in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Boiling Springs.  There will be no viewing or visitation.
