ROBERT L. DUNCAN

Robert Linn Duncan, 69, of 201 W. Springville Road, Boiling Springs, went to be with his Maker on March 11, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 13, 1938 in Carlisle, he was the 4th child of the late William Rea, Sr. and Mary C. (Elliott) Duncan. He was married on July 9, 1961 to Chloe M. Leedy, originally of Shippensburg, Pa. He was a devoted husband to Chloe, and a great father to their three children.

Bob, also known as Linn, was a 1956 graduate of Big Spring High School, Newville, Pa. He then served his country for three years in the United States Army, including station and service in Korea, during which time he completed the U.S. Army aviation mechanical school and airframe repair school.

He was a life member of the Richard J. Gross VFW Post 8896, East Berlin, Pa and was a baptized member of Dickinson Presbyterian Church.

After his Army discharge, he was employed by Suburban Roofing Co., and during his early career he worked as a job foreman for many Central Pennsylvania mechanical contractors, including Eshenaurs, Inc., G. R. Sponaugle & Sons, Inc., and Facilities Management. He last worked for Flood & Sterling, Inc., becoming an expert in testing and balancing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. He was among the first in the country to be nationally certified as an HVAC balancing technician.

Bob was a member of Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association and its Local 19A. He retired from full-time employment in 1994 after 34 years of service with Local 19A, and he continued to serve after retirement by teaching HVAC testing and balancing in the Local’s apprentice program.

Bob had many interests and was a jack-of-all-trades. When younger, he enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. In later years he particularly loved tinkering with home improvement projects, gardening, spending time with his children and grandchildren, walking and enjoying the outdoors with his dog Buddy, and traveling with Chloe. Over the years he designed and built a mountain cottage, homes, garages and storage buildings, and he designed and supervised construction of the last home he and Chloe lived in together. He pursued and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. He served his community, having been elected and re-elected several times to be a supervisor in Latimore Township, Adams County, Pa. He also served for some time as Latimore Township’s Roadmaster.

Celebrating Bob’s life are his loving wife Chloe; daughter Lisa M. Juliana (and her husband Mark) of Boiling Springs; daughter Tina L.
